Description
On Thursday evening 9 February following the Parish 6.00pm Mass this group began a formation program with the first session 'Come and See' presented by Barbara Ashwell. Towards the end of the session the participants enthusiastically shared what they had appreciated -

  • the moments of quiet prayer
  • an understanding that a vocation is what God and I do together with the life and gifts and circumstances God has given me
  • that a relationship with God is called a spirituality and how I live my particular spirituality will determine not only how I relate to God but also how I relate to other people
  • that 'gracious choice' is to be chosen by Mary to bring her gentle spirit to the troubled world of our times as the early Marists did in their times
  • the possibility that all who respond to this gracious choice can live the Marist Spirituality in their daily lives
Most of the group are heavily involved in various Parish Ministries as well as family life and were grateful to find out that being Marist did not mean taking on extra but rather it enabled them to develop their own inner spirit to be able to carry out these commitments with Mary to bring Christ to our world. They went home armed with material to help them 'ponder' these things over the coming month. The next session with be given by Fr Patrick Kervin sm on the 9 March

Lay Marists are part of the Marist family of Priests, Sisters, Brothers and Missionary Sisters sharing the same spirit and mission - that of Mary. If you are interested in living Mary's spirit of compassionate love in your daily lives you are invited to a meeting in St Gabriel's Parish Hall, Bexley on the second Friday evening of each month from 7.00pm - 8.30pm. Come and see - 'Do whatever he tells you' (John 2:5)
