Congratulations to Fr Paul Cooney

We welcome the news that Fr. Paul Cooney SM, is the Provincial-Elect for the Marist Fathers Australian Province. Fr Paul, who will officially take up his new role at the beginning of 2007, was born in 1953 and lived in Thirroul, NSW. He completed his secondary schooling with the Marist Fathers, at St Paul's College, Bellambi. He was professed a Marist in 1973 and ordained in 1978.

Fr Paul received his tertiary education at Sydney University. After several years of teaching, he was assistant priest, then parish priest at numerous Marist parishes in Tasmania, Victoria, NSW and Queensland. From 1998-99 he was Formator at the Marist Seminary, Auckland, NZ.

Marist Laity Australia looks forward to the continued strong relationship with the Marist Fathers as envisaged by Father Colin moving, with Mary's spirit, into the future.
