The Assumption is about hope for all humanity It’s August and the heart of the month for us is the glorious feast of Mary’s Assumption into heaven. What is the importance of this mystery for us? Our Marist Laity Conference April 2008 is in full swing. Already we have had many people register for the Conference both individuals and groups. On 16 June, a small group of Marists gathered under grey and windy skies to remember a number of Marist missionaries Her lecture was “fire in the belly” stuff. She contrasted the evils of Western Society – its exploitation of the third world peoples; the destruction of the environment; the misuse of our planet’s renewable resources; the relentless measurement of everything in monetary profit with little thought for people’s needs and the importance of understanding the value of leisure, the Sabbath and community; the prolific cost and production of armaments at the expense of other forms of human productive effort; a culture that thrives on media assassination and encourages violence and exploitation of peoples.... On June 30 2008 it will be 150 years since the death of Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, the foundress of the Marist Sisters. This year, we have been using the small booklets titled: “Marist Laity – The Work of Mary.” St Pat's Marist Laity continues to meet 3rd Fridays at 6p.m. We are continuing our advertised programme, our July gathering entitled: Revealing the Mystery. On Saturday 26th May, we met in the crypt of St Patrick’s Church Hill to share in our Reflection Day. St Pat’s is one of the historic Marist sites in Sydney and we were introduced to some of that history by Br Fred, who also took us on tours of the older parts of the site during our breaks.
Holy Name of Mary

My sister Bev came from New Zealand to join me in the Harvest Exodus Pilgrimage. We flew to Cairo and stayed three days in Giza visiting the pyramids, the Museum, many churches and other places of interest. We then went through the tunnel under the Suez canal and travelled the route that Moses and the Israelites took through Sinai en route to the Promised Land.
