New Provincial Team for the Australian Province – smsm
On Sunday 24th August 2008, the new Provincial team for the Australian Province was commissioned during a Mass celebrated by Fr. Kevin Stewart sm. The team of Sr. Jennifer Clarke, Provincial, Sr. Marilyn Farley from Australia, Sr. Lusia Tuimavave from Samoa and Sr. Louise Runne from Papua New Guinea were called forth to gather at the candle used during the Provincial Chapter as all present sang the Magnificat. Then each one was blessed by one of the Sisters present, before all present prayed a blessing for the team.
Farewell to Sister Margaret Fitzgibbon smsm Sr Margaret returns to her homeland New Zealand in December to teach English at the Novitiate.
Sr Margaret has spent the past 19 years in Australia working for VISE (Volunteer for Isolated Students in Education) as a home tutor to give Mum’s a break. She has covered most of outback Australia and the NT. St Margaret has slept in shearer’s quarters and drovers’ sheds as well as family homes. Prior to that Sister spent 20 years teaching in Fiji, 2 yrs in Tonga and various stints in Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea. Sr Margaret is also known for the beautiful cards and craft work that she produces.
