CELEBRATING THE MARIST SISTERS JOURNEY OF 100 YEARS IN AUSTRALIA
It was a joyous mass, beginning with a beautiful powerpoint presentation of images of the Marist Sisters past and present, being Mary’s presence in Australia.
With twelve priests concelebrating, the ritual and symbolism in the liturgy was powerfully moving. The passing of the Scriptures to various people down the aisle prior to the Gospel was all inclusive.
Sr Joan McBride’s history of the Marist Sisters in Australia was a fitting offertory gift. So too, a native tree symbolising the hope that the Marist charism entrusted to them will continue to grow and bear more fruit.
Students from Cerdon College, Merrylands, led the singing. A poignant moment in the liturgy was the duet by two Cerdon girls, singing the parts of Mary and Elizabeth as they re-enacted the Magnificat. The words of joy, hope and love that fill this prayer and sung in such a heart-felt way, brought many to tears.
After mass, we were all invited to a sumptuous afternoon tea in the parish hall, provided by the Hospitality Group of Marist Sisters College, Woolwich.
It was wonderful to witness the joy of reuniting with old friends and meeting new people, but above all, to honour the Marist Sisters whose 100 years in Australia have brought the spirit of Mary to so many.
