SYDNEY PROVINCE MARIST BROTHERS LAY PARTNERSHIP

Marist Brothers in partnership

There are many things  happening in the Sydney  Province of the Marist  Brothers in the area of Lay  Partnership. It is a vibrant  time!

In preparation for the Province  Mission Assembly  which will take place in  Sydney from 29 – 31 March  2009, local forums have  been established at each  community across the  Province to facilitate the  nurturing of relationships  between Brothers’ communities  and Lay Marists.

It is hoped that the local  forums will be the seedpods  for growth in the future of  Marist Mission at the grass  roots level. They will  definitely be places for  table fellowship, information  dissemination and faith  sharing.

Each of the local forums  will select representatives  to attend the Mission  Assembly. There will be  two lay people and one  Brother from each of the  communities. The theme  for the Mission Assembly is

Together in mission

Daring in hope  The Mission Assembly will  address the many issues  around co-responsibility  in mission and the shape of  Marist lay vocation now  and into the future.

Pictured are some of the  people from the local  forums held in Cairns,  Queensland and in Auburn,  NSW.

Oceania Partnership  Commission

The Oceania Partnership  Commission is preparing  for a conference entitled  Towards a 2020 Vision.  The conference to be held  from 8-11 July 2009 will be  held at the Passionist Conference  Centre in Templestowe,  Victoria.
Lay Marist representatives  from around the Oceania  region will attend: 10 representat  ives f rom the  Melbourne, New Zealand  and Sydney Provinces and  five from the District of

The focus of the conference  is the Lay Marist vocation  and the identity of the Lay  Marist.  There is a two- pronged  focus to engage in:

  • A desire to form Lay Marists  in the charism, deepening  their faith and spirituality
  • A desire to invite and encourage  Lay Marists to  join with the Marist Brothers  in the mission of the  Institute, working among  the young, especially the  most needy.

I t  is hoped that the conference  will begin to address issues  around the identity and vocation  of Lay Marists and  around the structures that  will be necessary as Lay  Marists engage with each  other and the Brothers in  ways that will strengthen the  Marist Mission towards 2020  and beyond.

May the spirituality of
Marcellin Champagnat fill
with meaning and purpose
the lives of many Brothers
and Lay Marists today and
pawerfully awaken
new ways of being Marist..
