Champagnat Family Mass organized
by Julie Sligar Coordinator of Marists in the Champagnat Way The Champagnat Family Mass is an annual event on the Marist in the Champagnat Way calendar. It is held on the first Sunday in June each year to mark the feast day of our founder, St Marcellin Champagnat.
This year, on Sunday, 7th June 2009 around 60 people gathered at St Kevin’s Parish Church, Eastwood to celebrate.
Marists in the Champagnat Way is for anyone who wants to be connected to Marcellin Champagnat’s way of living the Gospel. It is a network of Marist Brothers and lay Marists.
The celebrant for the Champagnat Family Mass was Fr Bob Barber. Fr Bob is the Vicar Provincial of the Marist Fathers and a keen supporter of lay Marists. Fr Bob spoke beautifully of the example St Marcellin Champagnat provides for brothers and laity.
The Mass was a lovely celebration with the involvement of Marist Brothers and lay Marists from a variety of Marist ministries.
The celebrations concluded with afternoon tea. This time was a great opportunity for Marists to catch up with friends both old and new.
