Brother Ray Arthur fms
I was born in Sydney on 19 January 1949 and received my
early education at St Michael's Lane Cove and Villa Maria
at Hunters Hill, before transferring to Marist College North
Sydney, for Form 4. For Forms 5 and 6, I went to Mittagong
and the Marist Brothers Juniorate, where I was one of the first
group in the Wyndham scheme.
During 1968/69 I completed my initial formation at the Marist Brother's Novitiate and was professed in July 1969. I spent the second six months of 1969 teaching Grade 6 at Benedict primary school Lidcombe. Then from 1970 until 1973, I completed 4 years at the Dundas Marist Scholasticate and Macquarie University doing a BA Dip.Ed. My first appointment after Uni studies was to Gladstone Catholic College where I spent two years before being appointed to our mission at Kieta on Bougainville Island (PNG) in 1976. For the next 23 year I had various appointments in PNG, Bougainville, the Enga Province and the Solomon Island. My main ministries included teaching, vocations director, formation of young brothers and for the last six years I was the District Superior of the PNG/SI District. In 1999 I returned to Australia and completed a Marist renewal program in Italy. During this time there was the opportunity to visit our many Marist shrines in Europe. From 2000 I was given the opportunity to study counselling and qualified to work as a school counsellor. Presently I'm engaged in school counselling at Trinity Catholic College Auburn and I am doing further studies in counselling. From 2000 to 2004 I was also engaged in a ministry with our Indian brothers. My role was to represent the provincials of the Sydney and Melbourne provinces as Visitor who supported the Marist ministry in India and helped with administration and planning. For the past two years I have been the Marist Brothers representative on the Core Committee of Marist Laity Australia. |
