TITLE: Marist Laity Australia - Simplicity, Flexibility, Inclusiveness

Mary and Son

Magnificat

Preparation
1. Praise of the Father.
2. Hail Mary.

Text: Luke 1:46-55.

Setting: Fr. Jean-Claude Colin, who was among the first group of Marists, described a curious way of thinking and acting. He said, 'I place myself in the home of Nazareth and from there I see all that I have to do'.

Grace: Ask God for a deeper understanding of Mary's faith, so that you might choose her as your model and guide in following Jesus.

Reflection: Let Mary tell you about the prayer of praise that rose to her lips upon hearing Elizabeth declare her blest, especially:
1. Her humble acknowledgement of the overwhelming blessings that God had showered upon her.

2. Her ability to perceive, with the eyes of faith, how God, even now, was uplifting the poor and the weak.

3. Her realization that this work of God would be done especially by the Son she was bearing, and by those who would follow him.

Conversation: Allow Mary to teach you to pray her Magnificat with her. Let her teach you how you, too, have been blessed, how your life even now 'proclaims the greatness of the Lord', how you find your true joy in God your Savior, and also how God truly is with the poor and powerless people in the world around you today.

(It would help very much to memorize this prayer so that its words could spring often from your heart. You may even want to learn one of the melodies for singing it so that you could at least sing it in the quiet of your own heart--or even out loud. )

Journal: Record your reflections, and anything you have learned or felt, in your journal or notebook. Do this for each meditation.
