TITLE: Marist Laity Australia - Simplicity, Flexibility, Inclusiveness

Mary and Son

X. Nativity

Preparation:
1. Praise of the Father.
2. Hail Mary.

Texts: Luke 2:1-20; Matthew 2:1, 2, 9b-11.

Setting: Fr. Jean-Claude Colin, who was among the first group of Marists, described a curious way of thinking and acting. He said, 'I place myself in the home of Nazareth and from there I see all that I have to do'.

Grace: Ask God for a deeper understanding of Mary's faith, so that you might choose her as your model and guide in following Jesus.

Reflection: Listen as Mary recounts for you the most glorious, yet most humbling, night of her own life:
1. How at the moment of Jesus' birth, in a stable far from home, she began to realize that she could not keep this Child: for herself alone.

2. How this was confirmed with the coming of the shepherds, the singing of the angels, and the visit of the Magi.

3. How she began to realize at this moment that her home was not her own, that her family was no longer limited to husband and child, that many would come, and all must be welcomed, no matter how rich or wretched.

Conversation: Share with Mary the difficulties you feel about living for Jesus and for others rather than for yourself.

Journal: Record your reflections, and anything you have learned or felt, in your journal or notebook. Do this for each meditation.
