TITLE: Marist Laity Australia - Simplicity, Flexibility, Inclusiveness

Mary and Son

XIII. Return from Egypt

Preparation

1. Praise of the Father.
2. Hail Mary.

Text: Matthew 2:15, 19-23.

Setting: Fr. Jean-Claude Colin, who was among the first group of Marists, described a curious way of thinking and acting. He said, 'I place myself in the home of Nazareth and from there I see all that I have to do'.

Grace: Ask God for a deeper understanding of Mary's faith, so that you might choose her as your model and guide in following Jesus.

Reflection: Listen to Mary recounting her experience in the desert with Joseph and Jesus, an experience that is similar to the years the Israelites spent in the desert under Moses:

1. The total dependence on God's word and guidance.

2. The long years of silence with no word from God.

3. The directive to return to Nazareth--among the smallest and most insignificant of towns in Israel-when they had apparently intended to go elsewhere.

Conversation: Share with Mary your experiences of God's silence, especially when you have been perplexed about the direction of your life. The difficulty of waiting. The disruption of plans when God does show you his will.

Journal: Record your reflections, and anything you have learned or felt, in your journal or notebook. Do this for each meditation.
