The Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary - September 8  Purpose
In celebrating Mary's birthday, the Church gathers and remembers its identity as a family of faith, a group of people who believe together, pray together and serve one another and the world.
Origin
The feast originated in the East toward 550, then appeared at Rome shortly afterwards.
