Day 2 Jan 5 Short visit to the orphanage

4 January 2017

We had a great day of exploration, taken around the city of Davao by our great Marist Laity Philippines tour guides, Fred and Randy. Shout out to these great blokes for their amazing help during the day and not getting us lost once. That was until dinner time at least, when our 5 minute walk to the sisters turned into a “half an hour scenic route.” Oops. Huge thanks to the sisters for walking us back to the hotel that night! But in all seriousness, we couldn’t do without their help. Thanks Fred and Randy.

We first spent a little bit of time at the preschool in Bajaou, where we couldn’t help but smile at the children’s enthusiasm and energy. Next we got back on our jeepney (a local form of transport) and went over to the Marist Mothers and Children’s group in Adgao. It was wonderful to meet these women who are doing such remarkable things in their community. But more on these guys later, keep tuned. We finished our tour by visiting the orphanage at Belay Pasilungan, where we got to meet Fr Long and some of his boys. The boys greeted us one at a time and gave us all a beautifully beaded necklace.
